Thank you so much for this great info, as I plan the switch from my slooooow windows to mac very soon, but was concerned about all software I need and which only runs on windows, all firefox and emails etc….

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with the Stomper trial.

The automatic renewal is a pretty standard practice with recurring billing services, when a low-cost trial is offered. I know that it was clearly stated in the sign-up because I proof-read that copy.

I also know that they emailed twice about the upcoming end of the trial before billing anyone, and I proofed that copy as well.

It sounds more like you're having trouble receiving emails from Stompernet. The customer service team doesn't ignore emails, but that doesn't guarantee that you're receiving or reading their replies.

If you are still having any problems you can email me, and I'll hand it to 'em personally.

Thanks for the info on the Mac … love the look of them but it is a tough switch for a Windoze C# developer to jump the divide. Maybe one day….

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that you are affiliated with Stompernet. I don't think much of them. I signed up for the $1 trial and then found that my credit card was subsequently billed for the full membership a month later. I never agreed to that and never saw anything in the signup process or confirmation emails that said this would happen.

To me this is either an honest mistake or a deceptive and sneaky "marketing" practice. Given that I have tried every support email address I can think of and haven't received a reply of any sort (apart from the autoresponder) I tend to think that it was the latter.

Maybe their product is good, maybe you will help make it better … but based on my experience I am telling everyone I can that Stompernet is a rip-off!!

Have you idiots ever see the South Park where everyone bought hybrids. Their town got covered with smug instead of smog. And then the scientists told them that no matter what they did the climate would change. Well it's scientific fact.

Glenn, VMWare Fusion was a big improvement on Parallels. Parallels with Boot Camp was a survivable solution, but it wasn't ideal.

For one thing, it was a major hassle to migrate from my old PC to Boot Camp – Laplink PCMover is pretty good, but it's not perfect. It took like 14 hours to drag it all over on a Laplink cable, and a bunch of stuff just didn't work right.

Being able to just image the whole laptop into a virtual machine and stick it on my Mac was a huge time saver. VMWare's converter took ~40 minutes to image my laptop onto an external USB drive, and less than half an hour to move it onto my Mac.

Fusion's "Unity" mode is cool – you can run Windows apps in their own windows, without the Windows desktop. They all have to be in the same "Space" because they're all running under the same application, but that's cool for me because "PC" is one of my 4 Spaces.

Very nice article – I got a MacBook in January of '07 and it's been my primary computer ever since. You've got me interested in VMWare for sure, and I just fired up Spaces for the first time – tres cool!
